Paul Douglas and Don Shelby. Like Peaches and Herb, they were not only reunited but were practically shaking their groove things on the 10 p.m. news Wednesday evening. Earlier this week, we had to other friends from Don’s past drop in to read the news with him on his last full week of broadcasting here at WCCO. Click the following links to check out how Pat Miles and Colleen Needles fared.
Don and Paul’s acerbic repartee with each other is legen- … wait for it … -dary. But the two opened the show on a relatively serious note.
But it wasn’t long before Don moved onto a much bigger story: Paul’s smoldering, sexy looks and the attention they recently received from People Magazine. Again! This actually marks the fourth straight year Paul has been so honored.
When it came time for the two to sit down and talk at length, no topic was left untouched. Paul and Don talked about climate change, make-up artists, their pseudo-brotherly relationship and, yes, Paul’s departure from WCCO and what it’s been like since.
Chris Shaffer was gracious enough to step aside Wednesday evening so Paul could once again deliver the forecast from the WCCO Weather Center. Of course, it will take a few days to see how close his predictions are. It will also take a few days for him just to wrap up the forecast, as Don points out at the end of this video.
Speaking of going over, Mark Rosen wants his time back — years and years and years’ worth of forecasts running over their slot.
Maybe Mark’s for real. While Don and Amelia were notably thrilled to be reunited with Paul, Mark assessed his encore performance as “OK.” Nice!
As you heard in that final clip, Paul is sure retired life is going to be great for Don. It’s not the first time he’s said so, though. Here’s a clip that was shown at Don Shelby’s roast last month.
Thursday night is going to bring a familiar face to the anchor desk to reminisce with Don: Amelia Santaniello! Yes, she’s still working with Don for another few days, but there’s no denying their history as an anchor team is long and storied. Here’s a full preview:
